About Us

Scotland County Hospital (SCH) is a non-profit district hospital in operation since 1970, designated as a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) in Memphis, Missouri.  Since 1997 SCH has established three (4) hospital-based rural health clinics in Scotland, Clark, Knox and Schuyler counties in order to stabilize healthcare delivery providers.  SCH has continually demonstrated a deep commitment to this rural remote geographic area we serve, in which we are the only hospital in a five (5) county area of extreme Northeast Missouri.

What is a Critical Access Hospital: A Critical Access Hospital (CAH) is a hospital certified to receive cost-based reimbursement from Medicare. The reimbursement that CAHs receive is intended to improve their financial performance and thereby reduce hospital closures.
Scotland County Hospital and rural health clinics are dedicated to more than just providing emergent medical care. We are dedicated to providing services to help prevent major medical conditions from occurring.  SCH does this by following our mission “to improve the healthcare of our communities with services close to home”.  This mission is inclusive of the uninsured and under insured. Our way of improving healthcare in the communities we serve includes partnering with many medical specialties to ensure services are obtainable close to home. Our focus is aimed to improve health and improve the quality of life in the communities we serve.  We believe that our programs give the community the tools they need to make a positive change in their own lives and in their communities.
