Nutrition & Fitness Day Camp

During summer, kids often have less-structured schedules, leading to less activity and fewer healthy food choices. For these reasons and more, the staff from Scotland County Hospital will be leading a Kids Nutrition and Fitness Day Camp on Tuesday, July 23 from 11 am – 2 pm in the Hospital’s Library Conference Room. The camp is free of charge and open to students from anywhere that are going into grades third through sixth.
The children will learn how to make healthy snacks and simple meals by Andrea Graham, RD, LD, the Hospital’s Registered Dietitian. She will teach the children the basics of nutrition and how to read food labels. The Hospital’s Therapy Services staff will spend time with the participants teaching them stretches and exercises. Children will play games that help them identify good food choices and they will learn exercises they can do to get them up and moving and give them a break from screen time.
Statistics show that childhood is the best time to instill good eating habits, good nutrition and ways to be physically active for life. The effects of overeating and under-exercising are staggering. This day camp will encourage participants to eat healthy and stay active for life.
Campers must be pre-registered by July 19th. To register, please call or email Andrea Graham at Scotland County Hospital at 660-465-8513 x1817 or email at grahama@scmh.net.
