Occupational Therapy (OT) Month

April is Occupational Therapy Month.
Occupation Therapy is part of our wonderful “Therapy Services” department at Scotland County Hospital.  Therapy Services consist of Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy and don’t forget Occupational Therapy.

Fun Facts about OT!

  • OT was founded by 3 men & 3 women in the early 1900s.
  • Profession began to thrive during WWI & WWII known as “reconstructive aids”.

  • OTs are experts at activity analysis helping clients achieve optimal performance.
  • OTs recommend adaptive equipment such as: button hooks, sock aids, reachers, bedside commodes, grab bars, build-up utensils, etc.
  • Occupational therapists treat the whole person, utilizing holistic approaches combined with scientific evidence and current research to provide comprehensive treatment.

OT works with a wide range of diagnoses across the lifespan including: developmental delays, visual perceptual deficits, ADHD, Autism, orthopedic injuries, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, general debility in geriatric population, multiple sclerosis, and amputations to list a few.
